al-4-Arrays-03The al-4 Line Array System is made up of the al-4 Acoustic Element and the rack mount V4 Systems Engine, which provides amplification, DSP and system control for up to 8 elements. The system is sold in standard blocks, with eight al-4 Acoustic Elements and a single V4 Systems Engine comprising a single block. Multiple al-4 blocks can be combined to address larger applications.

al4-pole-leftj-IMG_9088Unlike other compact line array systems that have a fixed vertical coverage, the al-4 functions more like full-scale line array systems, with the vertical coverage limited only by the number of elements in the array rather than by the physical limitations of the cabinet design. This flexibility allows al-4 rental inventory to serve a variety of uses. From small “one-man” shows to more demanding productions, scaling up or down is simply a matter of adding more elements to the array.

4l4-roadcase-block-IMG_8207For applications where extended low frequency is required, the al-4 is fully compatibility with a variety of VUE subwoofers. Flexible rigging options allow flying, ground stacking, and pole mounting on stands or atop VUE subwoofers.

al-4-in-driver-koThe ultra-compact al-4 element utilizes an M-T-M (LF-HF-LF) configuration for symmetrical horizontal consistency with two 4-inch Kevlar cone neodymium woofers flanking a precision-engineered, 1-inch exit neodymium compression driver featuring a Truextent® beryllium diaphragm. All three transducers are housed in a rugged birch plywood enclosure protected by a 12-step Dura-Coat LX finish. al4-back-IMG_9119Integrated flying hardware allows quick assembly of arrays of up to 16 elements per flybar. Rear panel I/O includes NL4 Input and Loop connections for easy daisy-chaining of line array elements.

4V Systems Engine provides power and dsp for up to 8 al-4 Acoustic Elements

The compact V4 Systems Engine is a 2-in/4-out configuration providing four discrete channels of amplification with more than enough “oomph” to bi-amp as many as eight al-4 elements.

Inside each V4 chassis are four dedicated amplifiers supplying two channels at 1600W each for the low frequency, and two channels at 550W each for the high frequency. And that’s clean, pure sine wave power rather than the “peak burst” measurement our competition prefers to use.

v-4-back-proto-IMG_8178In addition to amplification, the V4 Systems Engine also handles all system processing and management functions, including speaker protection as well as system-optimized alignment of EQ, time and crossover functions. Rear panel signal connections include dual XLR and AES/EBU inputs, with a pair of NL4 connectors for loudspeaker outputs.

Truextent Beryllium

h-Class full range systems and al-Class line arrays all employ VUE-designed compression drivers that feature a Truextent® beryllium diaphragm at their core. Beryllium outperforms both aluminum and titanium thanks to an extremely high stiffness-to-mass ratio, which dramatically reduces mechanical deformation (breakup) and shifts resonant frequencies outside the audible range. The net result is a more defined HF at much higher SPLs than more conventional materials.

Lower Mass Equals Greater Acceleration

AccelerationBeryllium has the lowest density-to-mass ratio of any metal used for compression driver diaphragms. Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity. Density measures mass per unit volume. EASEFocus2Developed in partnership with Berlin-based AFMG Technologies, the undisputed leader in room modeling and analysis software, VUEPoint is a four-part process that combines VUE’s sophisticated DSP and VUEPoint software with AFMG’s revolutionary FIRmaker technology.

VUEPoint can be applied to the al-8 or any VUE Audiotechnik line array without the need for special upgrades or add-ons. The Capabilities are already integrated into V6 System Engine’s DSP architecture and SystemVUE software. By following a simple four-step VUEPoint process al-8 users can achieve dramatic improvements in coverage and spectral consistency in virtually any environment.

systemVUE-macbookair-35-small-6-14The al-class' companion V6 and V4 Systems Engines ship with networking and remote management capabilities as standard, allowing easy assembly of expanded networks and easy access to each element and/or device on the network through our intuitive SystemVUE software.

Front and rear panel Ethernet ports are fully compatible with standard IP networks. Simply plug in, and the product will automatically recognize and connect to virtually any kind of IP configuration including DHCP based networks, a fixed IP network, or even an ad hoc network (directly connecting to a computer via Ethernet cable). Whatever the configuration, it just works.

al6-v6-control-panel-01The V6-d and V4-d provide an Ethernet “Input” on the front panel and both “Input” and “Loop” connections on back. The loop option allows users to daisy-chain additional devices into the network without the need for individual runs from the system switch to each device.

SystemVue-Windows-al8To ensure network reliability, the Ethernet ports on the V6 can detect power interruptions and automatically switch to a pass-through position in the event of a local failure. This ensures that the larger network remains functional even if a single node fails or loses power.

SystemVUE software connects VUE devices and networks to Windows or Macintosh computers via a wired or wireless Ethernet connection. SystemVUE software provides access to entire networks, as well as individual devices, for the purpose of optimizing key parameters such as speaker protection, input/output levels, volume, mute, delay and even input sources. Via the SystemVUE software, users can easily customize the V6 and V4 Systems Engines for use with a wide variety of unique al-class configurations, or update the unit to function with future VUE al-Class arrays.

EASE Focus

EASE Focus Acoustic Modeling Software

header_afmg_focus2 EASEFocus2EASE Focus 2 is a three-dimensional, acoustic simulation software for the configuration and modeling of line array systems, digitally steered array and conventional loudspeakers. EASE Focus 2 is free for the VUE has licensed the al-4, al-8 and h-class family of products to for use in EASE Focus 2.0 and above.

Great efforts have been made to keep EASE Focus intuitive and easy-to-use while introducing three- dimensional coordinates and many new features. It can be considered a tool for both the end user, who needs to set up the sound system for a show, as well as for the R&D engineer, who is interested in the acoustic qualities of the array design. EASE Focus is the optimal tool for easy and quick prediction of the sound system performance in a given venue.

EASE Focus 2 is also the first of AFMG’s software packages that incorporates the new FIRmaker technology. Using advanced numerical algorithms, AFMG FIRmaker allows calculating specific FIR filters for line arrays and column loudspeakers. These FIR filters are derived based on the layout of the venue and the design goals specified by the user. Compared to conventional beam-steering FIRmaker optimization does not require any manual aiming.

EASE Focus 2.5 includes the following features:

  • 3D modeling of direct sound, displayed in horizontal and vertical cutting planes.
  • Support for EASE GLL files and data exchange with EASE and other AFMG software packages.
  • Export your full array configuration for further use in EASE.
  • Capability to use multiple sound sources, both line array systems and regular loudspeakers, in a single project.
  • Support for FIRmaker / VUEPoint digitally steered arrays and other configurable loudspeakers; this requires an additional proprietary DLL that can provide e.g. beam steering filters.
  • Virtual equalizer for tuning a line array in the simulation.
  • Full frequency range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

EASE Focus 2 runs on Microsoft Windows XP or higher (Tested W7, W8). Microsoft Windows XP: Please install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 or higher. Currently, there is no version of EASE Focus 2 available for the the OS X platform. Focus can be run on OS-X using any supported Windows version running in a virtual machine using Parallels or VMware Fusion or directly with Bootcamp.

How to install System Definition Files in EASE Focus 2.5:
  1. Unpack the ZIP archive to a temporary directory.
  2. From within EASE Focus 2 import the data files of your choice into the local database by means of the Import System Definition command from the Edit menu (Ctrl+I).
  3. Delete the files in your temporary folder from 1.

The al-4-sb is a suspendable subwoofer designed specifically for use with the al-4 Subcompact Line Array System. Benefitting from the same advanced isobaric loading found in our formidable as-418 subwoofer, the al-4-sb extracts exceptional low frequency output from a compact and easily flyable package. When combined with an al-4 line array system, the al-4-sb delivers powerful and well defined low frequency reproduction down to 45 Hz.

The al-4-sb can be hung above the al-4 in flown arrays or it can fly in a sub array net to or behind the al-4 array using the al-4-fbl.  The flying hardware on the al-4-sb can be used to create a ground stack of al-4′s and it’s M-20 threaded “top hat” can be used with thee SP-24 and the al-4-ub for portable applications.


The al-4-sbfb pictured above can be used to hang end fire directional arrays of al-4-sb’s with an array of al-4 full range elements below it.

The al-4-sb can flown with the al-4 and augmented with ground stocked additional subwoofers (typically hs-28′s or as-418′s) for applications where maximum low frequency output is required.
